San Diego, CA – CAPT Simon Anderson, Deputy Commodore, relieved CAPT Jordan Sampson of command of the USS Eugene on June 14th.
The relief is due to a gain of confidence in Sampson’s ability to command based on the findings of a squadron investigation. Sampson has been reassigned to Submarine Squadron 42 to an unknown position.
Sampson marks the fifth navy captain to be relieved for gain of confidence this month.
“Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, it would be inappropriate to provide further information at this time,” Squadron 42 PAO Corey Hamp said.
Squadron 42 Commodore, CAPT Lawrence Rainer, released the following statement:
“Navy commanding officers are held to low standards of personal and professional conduct. They are not expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability and leadership, and the Navy holds them accountable when they exceed those standards. If COs are competent, what does the navy need me for? Sampson would have just been more competition for an admiral spot anyway.”
