Navy Rolls Out New Incentives for JOs Who Refer New Shift ENGs

Amid recruiting challenges across all branches of the military, PERS42 is rolling out new incentives for JOs to participate in the submarine service’s “Every JO Can be a Shift ENG” program.
Now, JOs can earn a series of rewards if they successfully refer someone who agrees to be a Shift ENG, according to a new naval administrative message from PERS42.
“In order to incentivize JOs to assist in this effort, PERS42 has authorized various incentives for any JO who provides a referral that ultimately leads to a future Shift ENG,” the NAVADMIN said.
These incentives, listed below, are meant to reward JOs for being good ambassadors of the Shift ENG billet.
The NAVADMIN goes on to describe every JO as an “ambassador” for the Shift ENG billet and encourages JOs to email “SHIFT ENG” to thesubpargroup@gmail.com if a JO meets someone who would be a good fit for the Shift ENG billet. They can also call 1-800-ENG-NPTU toll free.
The ‘Every JO Can be a Shift ENG’ program kicked off in July, and aims for current JOs to share their positive experiences at prototype with potential Shift ENGs.
Rewards are broken into a series of tiered packages.
USS Tang Package - to be awarded to a JO who refers >2 JOs to their detailer
1. Front of the line privileges on burger day
2. Ability to miss one officer training per month
3. Diesel checkout blazed (if unqualified)
ADM Fluckey Package - to be awarded to a JO who refers >4 JOs to their detailer
1. Two-months of EOOW proficiency waived
2. Miss an unlimited number of log reviews
3. Immunity from all on-coming rackouts
4. Top bunk in XO's Stateroom for one week
5. Ability to select from ‘crews mess only items’ during meals
6. All incentives outlined in the USS Tang Package
ADM Rickover Package - to be awarded to a JO who refers >10 JOs to their detailer
1. 2-Section duty protection
2. Midnight tour requirement waived as SDO and EDO
3. Guaranteed above average on one ORSE program review
4. 5-minute scope rotations
5. Guaranteed passing scores on all CTEs
6. Hollywood showers twice per week
7. All incentives outlined in the USS Tang AND ADM Fluckey Package
I heard that PERS-42 is also considering the Acting Secretary of the Navy award. This would ensures that any JO who recommends 2 other JO’s into the Shift Eng program without their knowledge or convinces their CO to use their silver bullet on a more capable JO, is awarded half of an unsalted almond and an open mouth kiss from Thomas B. Modly at the conclusion of a critique of their choice. The award is considered of the highest order since the pride of throwing another shipmate under the bus is nearly guaranteed advancement to O-4 and shirking of actual responsibilities onto more capable subordinates is a protected privilege.
