Washington Navy Yard – LTJG Joseph Macintyre plead guilty to disclosing ship schedules and other classified information to defense contractor (Fat) Leonard Glenn Francis in exchange for two REM cycles, the U.S. Justice Department announced Thursday.
Macintyre, 25, is the first Junior Officer (JO) tied up in the Fat Leonard scandal. Until Thursday no officer under the rank of Commander has been suspected, convicted or plead guilty to bribery charges. The disgraced LTJG admitted to that he and two other Junior Officers onboard the USS Nashville, a fast attack submarine stationed in San Diego, each “received three hours of uninterrupted sleep in a twin bed” from Francis.
In exchange for these luxuries the JOs agreed to provide Francis the date of their boat’s only deployment port call in Apra Harbor, Guam.
“I am fully prepared to accept the consequences of my actions,” Macintyre said under instruction of his lawyer. “My case is no different than those captains and admirals who exchanged military secrets in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars, prostitutes, and drugs.”
Macintyre went on to explain that it doesn’t matter if the XO’s wife already posted the pull in date on Facebook, he should be held ultimately responsible.
