University of Michigan alum Lieutenant James Murphy announced he pulled his resignation letter and will return to sea as a Department Head (DH).
The Boston native took to twitter to let his friends, family, and detailers know he was coming back for another sea tour.
“These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the conn and not at home with my wife and kids,” Murphy tweeted. “That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my wardroom, and I love my supportive wife who will have to raise our kids by herself. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 2nd sea tour as an SSBN Nav. Unfinished orders LFG.”
DH Detailers were quick to express their joy as they inched one JO closer to a full SOAC class for the first time in eight years.
“PERS-42 is thrilled to have such a qualified, intelligent, and dedicated individual stay in the submarine force,” Navy Recruiting Command Spokesperson LCDR Mike Davies said of the two-time PNEO selectee and NNPTC anchorman.
After a quick look back at Murphy’s stats onboard the USS Tampa Bay it’s no wonder why PERS-42 is so excited to keep the future XOSS.
During his three-year tour, Murphy averaged 9.2 man-hours in the rack and 5.8 movies per week while leading the boat in CTE upgrades during nine of his ten quarters onboard. Of all of Murphy’s impressive stats the most noteworthy is his all-time fleet record of four Naval Reactors Incident Reports.
