Dear Subpar Group - NUPOCC
Dear SPG,
The last few months have been pretty bad on the boat. We had our CRE, ORSE, IPDT and APDT all back to back and I’ve had enough of it. I am thinking about dropping my letter right now. However, I don’t really have any idea of what I would want to do out there in the civilian world and don’t really know where to start. Can you help?
Sincerely,
Almost Qualified Fish
Dear Almost Qualified Fish,
First off, we strongly recommend that you take the shore tour. Shore tour is the birthright of all sub JOs and allows you the time to plot your next move while working so little that in some cases you might technically qualify for unemployment (depending on the state). However, if you want to take a look at future jobs post navy we strongly encourage you to connect with Mike Bradley and participate in one of his career fairs (next one is March 4 – 5). You’ll probably have to do the virtual, but if you can get a leave chit approved in time, there’s one in Charleston this week!
Mike is a former sub JO who runs a nonprofit that funds networking opportunities and career fairs for nukes for all kinds. The registration for these events is free for you and we’d recommend you check them out. Mike’s also just a good guy to talk all types of transition stuff with.

Also – if you mention you were referred from SUBPAR you’ll get 50% off your registration fee. (NOTE 1)
