I have a framed maneuvering watch chart that’s hanging on my wall, and 30+ years after leaving my boat I still like it. You could make a signature block for all the wardroom officers to sign (sort of heartfelt). I don’t know how to make it funny, unless maybe you could identify on the chart all the places weird shit happened. “This is where LT Smith was arrested.” “This is where PO Schmucately fell overboard in ’22, and the harbor pilot boat had to pull him our of the water.” ETC.

What if you ordered two replacement emergency blow valves and attached them to a plaque, and labelled it something like “Only operate in case of emergency” – that might be sort of funny, although emergency blow valves are probably pretty expensive, so that might not be funny after all…or maybe that would make it funnier? I guess it would depend on the CO.

My CO had many catchphrases and idiosyncratic quips. For his end of tour, we made "band tour t shirts" but the songs and tour locations all referenced his catchphrases or memorable /funny stories.

The only way to make this funny is to tie it to some event that was personal to the CO and that wardroom. Example: One of my CO's ended up with a blue ear thanks to a blued 2JV handset forward of maneuvering. I would take a 2JV handset, and paint the earpiece bright blue, and then mount that on a wooden plaque, and then put something clever on the label. Bottom line, it all depends on the CO, his wardroom and the events that they shared.
